What this site is, and is not

SoccerGhost publishes probabilities. It does not sell tips, does not take bets, does not hold money, and has no way of knowing whether you have placed anything. Every number here is an estimate from a model, and the model is wrong regularly — which is why every call it makes is published before kickoff and never edited, losses included.

The arithmetic nobody puts on a page like this

Bookmakers price bets with a margin. Across every bet you will ever place, at every bookmaker, the expected return is less than what you stake. That is not a claim about your judgement — it is how the industry is funded, and it is true of people who are good at this as well as people who are not.

A few things follow from that, and they are the reason this site is built the way it is:

• A losing run is not evidence that you are due. Each bet is priced as if the last ten had never happened, because as far as the result is concerned, they haven't.
• Long accumulators are where the margin compounds. A four-leg slip carries the bookmaker's margin four times over. That is why this site shows you how unlikely a slip is in plain words rather than as a tempting price.
• Chasing a loss is the most expensive habit in betting. The bet you place to get even is the one placed for the worst reason.

Practical things that work

• Set a deposit limit with your bookmaker before you need one. Every licensed operator offers this, and it takes under a minute.
• Use their self-exclusion tools.
• Never bet with money that is already spoken for.
• If you are signed in here, your own record is on your account page — including the months that went badly. It is often further from what people remember than they expect.
